Matt Prater went fishing. Is there a better offseason antidote for a kicker who suffered from late-season fatigue?

Prater was sensational through the Broncos’ first seven games last season, when he consistently booted his kickoffs into the end zone and made 13-of-14 field-goal attempts, including 4-for-4 from beyond 50 yards.

But he finished the season just 3-for-89 from the 40-49-yard range, and his kickoffs struggled to reach the 5.

After spending some time fishing in Florida with his family, during the offseason,Prater was back kicking 62-yard field goals Tuesday during the team’s minicamp. The Broncos have made sweeping changes this offseason, but Prater remains the one and only kicker on the roster.

“That means a lot, especially with a new coach coming in,” Prater said. “They brought in a lot of new guys, and they didn’t bring in a kicker, so that’s a confidence-builder for me and kind of flattering, too.”
