GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Grand Junction man accused of stabbing a man who was found dead a few days later will be allowed to leave Colorado to travel to Florida.
A Mesa County judge granted the request from 58-year-old Mack Sadler on Tuesday, on the condition that he return by the end of July. It wasn’t immediately clear why Sadler wanted to go to Florida.
Sadler pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder and first-degree assault in the Feb. 3 death of 32-year-old Douglas Bennett. Authorities say Sadler stabbed Bennett outside Sadler’s home Jan. 29.
Bennett was released from the hospital Feb. 2. A day later, prosecutors say Bennett suffered an allergic reaction to medication he was taking in connection with the attack and died.
Sadler’s trial is set for Aug. 10.
