Longmont-based Dohm-Icebox makes its wool hats the old-fashioned way: with hand-operated knitting machines. It also uses only merino or mohair blend wools that are produced under strict environmental standards, and uses recycled wool and fleece, as well. For its bags and tags, it uses post-consumer waste plastics, paper and ink. For these reasons and others, Dohm recently was named one of the top 40 innovative companies for 2009 by Apparel Magazine. The hats, typically $25-$35, are sold at such stores as REI, Buffalo Exchange and Boulder Arts and Crafts Gallery. More at
