Three Denver police officers suffered scrapes and bites in a struggle with a suspected car thief tonight.
Police initially found pickup truck reported stolen in southeast Denver about 9 p.m. The truck appeared abandoned until a person sat up in the driver’s seat, cranked the vehicle and sped off, hitting a police car in the process, said Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson.
Police did not chase the fleeing suspect, he added.
At South Monaco Parkway and East Cornell Avenue, the driver hit another car and was trying to pull out the driver to switch vehicles when police caught up with him, Jackson said.Though the driver did not pull it on officers, he was found to be carrying a gun, Jackson said.
Both drivers, along with police, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Charges and the suspect’s name will likely be released Friday.
