WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says he will use next week’s speech in Egypt as an effort to improve the United States’ image in the Muslim world.

Obama said Thursday that he plans to discuss his country’s outreach to Muslims around the world and contributions of Muslims in the United States. He said he would discuss the broader need for peace in the Middle East and common understanding among nations.

The president plans to deliver the speech Thursday in Cairo.
