Never mind the ick factor — a Utah boy is trying to get into the record books by covering his face with live snails.
Fin Keheler, 11, of Sandy allowed 43 of the slimy mollusks to be placed on his face Saturday. He’s hoping the effort will be verified by Guinness World Records.
The Guinness website says the record set in 2007 for snails on the face for 10 seconds is eight.

Snake-slinging nets charges for student
A spokeswoman for Pittsburgh Public Schools says a high school student swung around a snake from a biology class but didn’t use it as a jump rope as police had said.
Schools spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said Wednesday that “it’s not a big enough snake to jump rope with.” She also says the albino corn snake is OK and didn’t need to be treated by a veterinarian after Monday’s incident.
Police say the 17-year-old Taylor Allderdice High School student will be charged with theft and cruelty to animals.
Tot slips out of school, walks mile home
Pittsburgh school officials are trying to figure out how a 4-year-old boy slipped away from his preschool in the middle of the day and walked to his home about a mile away.
The boy’s mother, Markeya McCary, says she was shocked when her son showed up at home Monday while he was supposed to be at the Greenway Early Childhood Center.
School officials had noticed he was missing and had already begun to search for him when they learned he had made it home.
McCary says her son told her that he left because someone tried to lock him in a closet.
School officials are investigating that claim and are trying to figure out how the boy slipped away from school.
