COMMERCE CITY — Police are investigating after a man was found shot inside a Dollar Value Plus store Wednesday afternoon.
People in the area said the victim owned the store.
“That’s somebody who didn’t deserve to get shot and killed, especially in his own store,” said Steven Jaramillo, a frequent customer of the store.
Police said a customer walked into the Dollar Value Plus store near East 64th Avenue in a commercial strip mall between Holly and Kearney streets about 1 p.m. and found the wounded man. Paramedics took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police have not officially identified the victim and are calling the case a homicide.
A woman attending a school event nearby said she heard shots.
“We heard a shot and a pop. My brother-in-law was like, ‘That’s a shot,’ ” said the woman, Susan, who didn’t want to give her last name.
Detectives don’t have a description of the gunman and haven’t found any witnesses. Officers are asking anyone with information to contact the Commerce City Police Department.
