Eagle County searchers have found the body of a missing kayaker.

At about 10 a.m. today, searchers removed the body of the man from water in an area about 200 yards east of the Eagle River Water Sanitation Building in East Vail, according to a press release from the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the body recovered is that of Drew Brian Hunter, 29, who lived in Fort Collins and Vail.

Sheriff’s dispatchers received a 911 call at about 4:25 p.m. Thursday from someone who reported that a man had fallen into Black Gore Creek.

Crews from Eagle and Summit counties spent hours looking for Hunter before suspending the search at about 9 p.m. Thursday.

The search resumed today at 7:30 a.m.

Kayakers Leif Anderson of Fort Collins and Eric Bissel of Golden said Hunter had been taking pictures from the bank of the creek before Bissel and he switched places.

Hunter got into trouble a short time later in a section known as the Fish Ladders area of the Black Gore, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
