Colorado State men’s basketball coach Tim Miles on Friday hired former assistant Randy Baruth to be the Rams’ director of basketball operations.

Baruth, 31, was a graduate assistant under Miles for two seasons (2002-04) at North Dakota State. Baruth spent the last five seasons as an assistant at Northern (S.D.) State under head coach Don Meyer, who ranks first all-time in college basketball history for coaching wins. During the 2007-08 season, Northern State posted a 29-4 record and was ranked in the Division II Top 25 for nearly the entire season.

“Randy is a fantastic individual that will bring a wealth of experience to our program,” Miles said. “Randy is highly organized and possesses a work ethic that is second to none. He will make a major contribution to our program.”

Barringer gets Prefontaine invite.

Jenny Barringer, the University of Colorado’s record-setting runner, will race in the 1,500 meters at the prestigious Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Ore., on Sunday.

Barringer said the chance to compete against an elite field was too good to pass up, even though the meet is less than a week before she defends her NCAA steeplechase title. “This is a really big meet, and I’m really excited to have the chance to compete against some of the best milers in the world,” she said.
