COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A man accused of shooting and killing a woman with a high-powered rifle has been ordered to stand trial.

A judge ruled there was enough evidence against Marc Thomas Sylvester to proceed with his case after a detective testified Friday that Sylvester said he shot 35-year-old Jennifer C. Warren in February.

Investigators say Warren was killed because she was believed to have talked to police about a drug case.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Detective Cliff Porter testified that Sylvester initially told him he didn’t know about Warren’s death. Porter says Sylvester began to describe the shooting after he was confronted with evidence that tied him to the scene of the shooting.

Sylvester is scheduled to go to trial Nov. 2 on first-degree murder charges.
