Benefit auction. Here’s a chance to own a piece of Colorado history: The Central City Opera House Association is hosting an auction of select antiques and memorabilia from The Teller House and the Chain O’Mines Hotel. A large portion of the items — including couches, chairs, bed frames, dressers and mirrors — are from rooms at the original Teller House Hotel, which is now owned by the association. All pieces date to the late 1800s and early 1900s. Preview the items today at 11 a.m. The auction gets underway at 1 p.m.

Neighborhood sales. Hundreds of houses and thousands of items. That’s what you’ll find at two community garage sales today. The annual Lowry Community Yard Sale begins at 8:30 a.m. and continues until 3 p.m. The neighborhood is located between Quebec Street, East 11th Avenue, Dayton Street and East Alameda Avenue. Another community sale at Village of Four Lakes, which is located in Littleton between South University Boulevard and South Clarkson Street (just north of County Line Road), begins at 9 a.m.
Summer reading. Faced with more than 80,000 books, readers of any age can’t miss the 34th annual Used Book Sale at the Denver Public Library. Shoppers also will find CDs, DVDs and audio books. Hours for the three-day event are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and June 13, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 14. Teachers and nonprofit organizations are invited to the Great Book Giveaway from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on June 14. The Members’ Preview Party is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
