Just running a marathon not enough for you?
Claiming to be the highest paved-route marathon (8,150 feet) in the country, the Estes Park Marathon Sunday includes a half-marathon, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, a 10K and a 5K on the same day. Children 6-12 can participate in a Fun Run Saturday in front of the Estes Park Town Hall. Race-day registration only for the 10K and 5K races, not the marathon or the half-marathon. Spectators can gather at the start and finish lines on the grounds of the Estes Park School campus, around Mary’s Lake, through downtown Estes Park, and near the Estes Park Visitors Center and along Dry Gulch Road. 970-586-8189;
Kinetics get a new home
The 30th Kineticists Challenge and Exhibition moves to the Millennium Harvest House Boulder. See the human-powered vehicles made from junk, craft materials, gears, humor and imagination 5:30-9:30 p.m. Friday at a free bluegrass concert by the Blue Canyon Boys. On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., kinetics sculptors will compete on the outer perimeter of the hotel’s 16-acre grounds. Kids and adults can enter the decorated bicycles and costume contest; the $5 registration fee will be donated to the Boulder-Broomfield County Foster Adoptive Family Association.
