The bad weather the roared through downtown Denver this afternoon tore a chunk out of an otherwise flawless People’s Fair.

“We had rain and hail for 15 or 20 minutes solid,” said organizer Roger Armstrong Sunday evening as the recovered crowds moved out and the vendors began folding up their tents.

“It definitely affected our numbers.”

There weren’t many complainers, however.

“I like it when there’s fewer people,” said Maleah Watson. “It felt so clean and cool after the rain.”

The arts-and-crafts festival has been put on annually by Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods since 1971 to celebrate the city’s diversity.

The two-day event annually draws about 250,000 attendees, 500 vendors and 300 volunteers.
