BATTLEMENT MESA — Residents of Battlement Mesa worried about pending oil and gas drilling are getting assurances from state officials that their concerns will be heard.

Gov. Bill Ritter has asked oil and gas regulators to meet with residents within the month to talk about the plans that could lead to the drilling of 200 new oil and gas wells in their area.

Some state officials met with about 20 Battlement Mesa residents Saturday to talk about their worries.

Denver-based Antero Resources recently announced intentions to drill from 10 well pads within the 3,000- acre development, an unincorporated community of 5,500 people.
