One World Cafe has created a little world of its own in downtown Evergreen. Following Bob Marley’s advice — “One love, one heart, let’s get together and feel all right” — the tiny restaurant has a big following.

You know this place: mismatched chairs, strings of twinkle lights over the bar, kids’ drawings taped to the wall, a “worthy cause” jar for donations to charity. It’s a great place to play “I spy” with the kids. See if they can find the stained-glass dragonfly, the chicken soup-can clock or the hubcap barstool.

The restaurant occupies the second floor of of an old building at the intersection of Colorado 73 and Colorado 74 on the west end of town. Don’t be put off by the messy entryway, just take the stairs up toward the St. Francis figure in a niche at the top, and hope one of the 10 tables is available.

The lunch menu offers seven vegetarian entrees, nine for dinner, plus salads and meat-free sandwiches with hummus, fresh mozzarella, avocado, carrots, cucumbers, radishes and roasted red peppers.

But One World loves carnivores, too. Curried beef and chicken, spaghetti and meatballs, Mediterranean or Caribbean pork, and four kinds of burgers offer plenty of protein. Desserts are house-made and vary with what’s in season.
