They may be light and small enough to be considered cute, but the new Freestyle (MSRP: $48) and Freestyle CX (pictured, MSRP: $72) multi- tool/knife hybrids are engineered to every last detail of a traditionally hardened Leatherman.
It just so happens that these little 4.5-ounce units fold up just larger than a pack of gum. The small stature of the Freestyle models dictates some sacrifices from the standard array of Leatherman multi- tools, but pliers (standard and needle nose) and wire cutters/strippers make excellent companions to the locking stainless steel blade in a pocketknife package that won’t weigh down your pack in the outback. The Freestyle combines a serrated edge; the CX comes only in straight blade. With weight-reducing carbon-fiber handle inserts, the CX also features a scratch- and corrosion-resistant body.
The Freestyle and Freestyle CX are covered under Leatherman’s 25-year warranty.
