Siju Shabazz of Las Cruces, N.M., upset defending champion Dorian Anthony of Lynwood, Calif., in a light heavyweight preliminary round bout Monday at the USA Boxing National Championships at the Denver Coliseum. Shabazz had a 6-3 lead after the first round and never trailed, winning 18-9.
Also during the afternoon session, Denver’s Jazzima Hogue fell by decision to Manuel Avila of Fresno, Calif., 17-11 at 119 pounds.
Shanahan, Cutler reunited.
Former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan and quarterback Jay Cutler will join Hall of Famer John Elway and Avalanche captain Joe Sakic next month in the American Century Golf Championship, a celebrity tournament at Lake Tahoe, Nev.
The tournament takes place July 17-19 at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course and will be televised by NBC on July 18 and 19.
Altitude keeping McNab.
The Altitude television network re-signed Avalanche color analyst Peter McNab to a multiyear contract extension. Next season will be McNab’s 14th in the TV booth for Avalanche games.
