Three of the five flights with the longest tarmac delays in April originated at Colorado airports, according to a federal air-travel consumer report issued Tuesday.

Two American Airlines flights from Eagle County Regional Airport were delayed April 3.

A flight to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport had the longest tarmac delay in the nation at 290 minutes — nearly five hours. Another flight to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport was held up 240 minutes, the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics report said.

United Airlines’ 264-minute delay of Flight 406 from Denver International Airport to New York’s LaGuardia International Airport on April 17 had the second-longest delay.

Overall, the 19 U.S. airlines reporting data improved their on-time performances in April, the report said.

More than 79 percent of the airlines’ flights arrived on time, compared with 78.4 percent in March and 77.7 percent in April 2008.

Hawaiian Airlines had the highest on-time rate, followed by Pinnacle and SkyWest. The lowest rate was Continental.

American Eagle had the highest rate of canceled flights, and Alaska Airlines the lowest.

Of DIA’s three-largest carriers, United saw 80.7 percent of its flights arrive on time. Frontier reported 77.7 percent on time and Southwest 84.1 percent.
