A man was fatally stabbed early this morning in northwest Denver, and police are looking for the assailant.

The stabbing happened at about 12:40 a.m. in the 1200 block of West 46th Avenue, said Sonny Jackson, a Denver Police Department spokesman.

Police received a phone call about an assault, and when officers arrived, they found a man with stab wounds, Jackson said.

The victim was taken to Denver Health Medical Center, where he died, Jackson said.

A witness told investigators she heard an “argument and scuffle” and then saw two men fighting, Jackson said.

The woman screamed, and the assailant, described as a stocky man with black hair wearing a red and white sports jersey, fled on foot, Jackson said.

The victim was not identified, and a motive in the case was not disclosed.
