HATTIESBURG, Miss.—It’s official: Southern Miss shortstop Brian Dozier will suit up for the College World Series.

Coach Corky Palmer watched Dozier take live pitching Tuesday and announced Wednesday that Dozier would be added to the roster for the trip to Omaha, Neb. The Golden Eagles open Sunday with Texas, the No. 1 seed.

Dozier has been out since April 16 surgery to repair a broken collarbone. He was batting .394 in 35 starts before the injury snapped his streak of 131 consecutive starts.

The senior from Fulton, Miss., won’t likely play in the field because of reduced arm strength, but will be available as a pinch and designated hitter and could play defense in an emergency.
