MIDDLETOWN, Conn.—A man accused of killing a Wesleyan University student from Colorado last month is due in a Connecticut court and may decide whether he wants a hearing to challenge the evidence.

Twenty-nine-year-old Stephen Morgan is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court Tuesday afternoon. He is charged with murder in the May 6 shooting of Johanna Justin-Jinich, of Timnath, Colo., in a bookstore cafe near the Middletown campus.

Morgan’s lawyer says Morgan will be deciding whether to request a probable cause hearing, in which a judge decides whether there is enough evidence to go to trial.

Authorities say Morgan and Justin-Jinich knew each other since at least 2007. Police say when they arrested Morgan, they found writings by him threatening to kill her and other Jewish students at Wesleyan.
