ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A federal appeals court has sent the corruption cases of two former lawmakers back to a trial judge, who could release the men immediately.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ordered the review Wednesday after the Justice Department found that prosecutors improperly handled evidence in the 2007 trials of former Alaska House Speaker Pete Kott and former Rep. Vic Kohringon.
