Air Force junior Sara Neubauer finished eighth in the shot put and qualified for the discus final at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday in Fayetteville, Ark.

Neubauer threw the shot 52 feet, 11 1/2 inches, earning one team point for the Falcons. Mariam Kevkhishvili of Florida won with a toss of 58-4 1/2. Neubauer’s heave of 169-5 in discus qualifying placed her seventh.

The Falcons’ Kellen Curry finished fifth in his heat and 20th overall at 14.16 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and did not qualify for the finals.

In men’s 1,500 qualifying, Air Force’s Dan Castle finished sixth and Colorado State’s Wil Buchanan eighth in their heats and did not qualify for the finals.

Jordan Kyle of Colorado finished 12th in the men’s 10,000 final, while Air Force’s Sean Houseworth was 15th.

Oraee wins by record margin.

David Oraee of Greeley sprinted away from the field Thursday to win the American Junior Golf Association Junior All-Star Series event at Aspen by an AJGA-record 18 strokes.

Mines’ Schiechl honored.

Defensive lineman Marc Schiechl of Colorado Mines is a preseason Division II All-American, according to The Sporting News. It is his second preseason honor, after getting the same nod from Lindy’s. The junior from Bear Creek High School had 13 1/2 sacks in 2008, which led the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and was second nationally.
