HARTFORD, Conn. — Connecticut men’s basketball coach Jim Calhoun was hospitalized Saturday after he collapsed following a 50-mile charity bicycle ride during which he fell and broke five ribs.
Calhoun, 67, was taken to the UConn Health Center in Farmington, where he was listed in good condition. He was to be held overnight for observation and released today, said Maureen McGuire, a hospital spokeswoman.
Murray to face Blake in final
LONDON — Andy Murray reached his first grass-court final, while Andy Roddick‘s quest for a fifth title at the Queen’s Club ended when he had to retire against James Blake because of a foot injury.
Murray beat Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-2, 6-4 in their Aegon Championships semifinal before Roddick had to quit at 4-4 in the first set of his match against Blake.
Roddick said the right-foot injury did not seem serious and he hoped to be ready when Wimbledon begins June 22.
“I’m going to do everything I can to play at Wimbledon,” Roddick said.
Cotto retains title
NEW YORK — Overcoming an early cut from an accidental head butt and several brutal rounds from Joshua Clottey, Miguel Cotto fought to a narrow split decision inside a packed Madison Square Garden, retaining his WBO welterweight title.
Referee Don Trella scored the fight 116-111 and John McKaie 115-112, both for Cotto, while Tom Miller had it 114-113 for Clottey.
The Associated Press scored it 116-112 for Cotto.

Michael Phelps held off a late charge by his rivals to win the 400-meter freestyle at the Santa Clara International Grand Prix.
