Scott Benefield has tendered his resignation as president of the school board of the largest district in the state. He cited personal reasons.
“I have truly loved serving on the board with all of you,” Benefield said in letter to fellow Jeffco Schools board members. “I believe we have been a good board and have made good, sound decisions and given direction that will enable Jeffco to lead Colorado in public education.”
He started serving on the board four years ago, representing District 1, which encompasses parts of Arvada and Westminster.
In July, the school board will elect a new board president and begin procedures to appoint someone to the vacant seat. The district is taking applications from registered electors in District 1.
“Scott has been a great friend to Jeffco public schools and has served with distinction,” Superintendent Cindy Stevenson said in a written statement. “He will be missed by all of us, and I wish him only the very best in the future.”
