OMAHA, Neb.—The commissioner of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association says the University of Nebraska-Omaha is talking about joining the league, and he says the association hopes to have a deal this summer.

Commissioner Bruce McLeod told the Grand Forks (N.D.) Herald newspaper that the Nebraska school hadn’t officially applied yet.

The Mavericks are in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.

The WCHA has talked about adding UNO and Bemidji State, which will have no affiliation soon because its College Hockey America conference will soon disband.

The two schools would begin WCHA conference games in the 2011-12 season. That means Bemidji State would be an independent in the 2010-11 season.
