Aaron Cook grabbed a little piece of history Wednesday night.

The redheaded right-hander pitched seven scrappy innings, helping the Rockies defeat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 at Coors Field.

The Rockies won for the 12th time in their last 13 games and snapped the Rays’ six-game winning streak.

Cook’s victory gave him 58 wins in his career, tying him with Jason Jennings for most in Rockies history. Jennings (58-56) needed 155 games for win No. 58. Cook (58-47) needed 154.

The Rockies’ bullpen, which had a 2.70 ERA during the team’s 11-game winning streak, was excellent again.

Manuel Corpas set the Rays down in order in the eighth inning, striking out Ben Zobrist and Pat Burrell. The Rays went three up and three down in the ninth as Rockies closer Huston Street notched his 14th save in 15 opportunities.

Cook coasted until the fourth inning, when Carlos Peña clobbered a leadoff double and scored on Burrell’s single. The situation grew a bit dire in the fifth when the Rays cut the Rockies’ lead to 5-3. Cook labored with 28 pitches, giving up back-to-back solo homers to Carl Crawford and Evan Longoria.

But Cook shut down the Rays in the sixth and seventh with his trusty sinker and an effective slider.
