ASPEN, Colo.—The Colorado Book Awards will be announced Monday as a writer’s festival starts in Aspen.

The weeklong conference brings together writers from around the world for seminars, readings and workshops on writing.

Writers at the festival include Ishmael Beah, author of a best-selling memoir about his time as a boy soldier in Sierra Leone. Also attending is Luis Alberto Urrea, who wrote “The Hummingbird’s Daughter.”

Colorado Book Awards are given in categories including poetry, fiction, history and children’s literature. Winners are Colorado residents or have works that are influenced by the state.
