Franklin Morales allowed only one run in six innings, leading the Colorado Springs Sky Sox to a 4-1 win over the Fresno Grizzlies on Sunday in Fresno, Calif.

Morales (1-2) won his first game of the season with the Sky Sox, striking out four and giving up only four hits, while Matt Murton had three RBIs and hit a home run.

Creek grad plays in World Cup.

Caroline Cryer, a former Cherry Creek High School lacrosse standout, is helping Team USA stay undefeated in World Cup play in Prague. Cryer, a Centennial resident and 2009 Duke University graduate, scored five goals and made two assists from her attack position in Team USA’s 26-12 victory over Japan. The U.S. previously defeated England and Canada and takes on reigning world champion Australia today.

Air Force names lacrosse coach.

After spending 2009 as the interim head coach, Eric Seremet has been named coach of the Air Force lacrosse team. Seremet served as the Falcons’ top assistant from 2002-08 before guiding Air Force to a 7-7 season last year, including a 4-1 record in the Great Western Lacrosse League and a second-place conference finish.

New team captain for DU hoops.

The University of Denver men’s basketball team has named Nate Rohnert of Parker the 2009-10 team captain.

Rohnert was a first team all-Sun Belt Conference honoree and was the captain last season, when the Pioneers finished 15-16 overall and 9-9 in their conference.

Steffes wins rodeo title.

The University of Wyoming’s Nikki Steffes won her second women’s all-around title at the College National Finals Rodeo on Saturday at the Casper Events Center.

Steffes had a total of 395 points by the end of competition Saturday night to claim her second championship in three years. She also won the all-around title in 2007.
