Three Garfield County offices in Glenwood Springs were closed for most of Tuesday after an angry man telephoned in a bomb threat.

The three buildings were found to be bomb-free at 5 p.m., and business was expected to return to normal on Wednesday.

The call came at 10:45 a.m., prompting the evacuation of about 200 people from the Garfield County Courthouse, the sheriff’s office and a county administration building, according to a spokeswoman. Two jury trials were in session and had to be continued.

A bomb-sniffing dog was brought in by a private security firm in Grand Junction and spent the afternoon checking the buildings. A Grand Junction bomb squad remained on standby in case a device was located.

Most county employees were released to return home for the day.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Tanny McGinnis wouldn’t give specifics of the threat other than to say it was related to a specific incident, which she wouldn’t identify. She said only that an angry male telephoned that a bomb would blow up sometime today.
