DENVER—The University of Denver is boosting temperatures in some of its buildings this summer to conserve energy and cut back on air conditioning.
DU’s energy engineer Tom McGee says temperatures in centrally controlled buildings will be boosted by about four degrees to an average room temperature of 76 degrees. The initiative would keep an estimated 162 tons of carbon dioxide out of the environment and save the university up to $40,000 this summer.
The university also is urging faculty and staff to cut back on air conditioning in older buildings with independently controlled window units.
