Boulder police are planning a crackdown on drunken driving in the college community this Saturday.
Specifically, the department will conduct a saturation patrol dedicated to DUI stops in the downtown and University Hill areas, according to Sarah Huntley, spokesperson for the Boulder Police Department.
The extra staffing is possible because of $50,000 provided by Colorado’s Law Enforcement Assistance Fund. The money is dedicated to providing overtime for DUI enforcement during 2009.
The department also received $24,900 in DUI checkpoint funds. Officers will conduct five DUI checkpoints during the summer using the money.
The police department is matching the grant with $7,400 in funds and materials and will also contribute $27,646 in DUI enforcement funds, said Huntley.
