The Holyoke-based Highline Electric Association has begun its first renewable-energy proj ect — a system that uses heat from a Kinder Morgan natural- gas compressor along the Trailblazer natural-gas pipeline to generate electricity.
The electric co-op expects to save about $10 million in power costs over the life of the 20-year contract with Ormat Technologies. The operation in Peetz in northeast Colorado will produce 4 megawatts at peak capacity.
