COLORADO SPRINGS — Is the Bowl Championship Series a communist regime? Air Force football coach Troy Calhoun said Thursday that BCS operations are un-American and more like the old Soviet Union’s Politburo.
“Unfortunately, what’s involved here, are some similarities that’s not the United States of America,” Calhoun said. “We have something here that’s not congruent with the foundation and the principles of our country.
“What we have here in college football is a system that closely resembles the old Soviet Presidium. If you’re not one of the chosen members, you’re unable to participate.”
Calhoun’s objections were aimed at the BCS excluding leagues such as the Mountain West Conference from equal participation in the BCS bowls. Irv Moss, The Denver Post
