A Northglenn Police Department motorcycle officer was seriously injured this morning when he was hit by a commercial truck that ran a red light, police said.
The officer, a 10-year veteran of the department who was not identified, was taken to a local hospital.
The crash happened at about 7 a.m. today at the intersection of 120th Avenue and the I-25 southbound ramp, said Sgt. Rick Kellogg.
The officer suffered “serious” injuries, Kellogg said.
Kellogg said the officer was getting onto the highway with a green arrow when a commercial truck ran a red light and plowed into the front end of the bike, throwing the officer from it.
The driver of the truck, an unidentified 17-year-old, is in police custody and is being interviewed about the crash, Kellogg said.
He drove away from the crash scene and was contacted by an officer several blocks away, Kellogg said.
More details on the incident will be released later today, Kellogg said.
