BOULDER, Colo.—The University of Colorado and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden are launching a joint institute on CU’s campus in Boulder this fall.
Its researchers will collaborate on projects and blend disciplines—including business, engineering and law—to explore renewable-energy production and policies.
Students eventually could take classes through the institute.
Officials estimate the institute’s first-year budget will be about $1.77 million. CU Chancellor Phil DiStefano says he expects most of the funding to come from research grants and the renewable energy industry.
A report from university officials says the institute will look to hire a director and up to 15 faculty members in the short term.
