Many have already learned homeownership isn’t always the American dream, particularly those facing foreclosure.

Recent research by Wharton professor Grace Wong Bucchianeri backs that up. After studying 600 women in Columbus, Ohio, and controlling for the effects of income, health and housing quality, she found that homeowners aren’t any happier than renters. She based that on how the women rated their life satisfaction, overall mood and other measures.

In fact, she found, homeowners tend to spend less time on enjoyable activities than renters. The Associated Press
