A mountain lion was spotted in a Weld County hotel parking lot just off of Interstate 25 in Del Camino, and four animals were found decapitated on a nearby property, authorities said.

A 6-foot long mountain lion was seen at about 11 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of a Quality Inn, near the 10000 block of the West I-25 Frontage Road, according to a media release from the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies and officers with the Firestone and Frederick police departments searched for the big cat but did not find it.

On Monday, a resident in the 9000 block of West I-25 Frontage Road reported finding three dead rabbits and a dead cat on his property, the Sheriff’s Office said.

All of the animals had been decapitated.

The rabbits were found on Sunday and the cat at about 1:45 p.m. Monday, the Sheriff’s Office said.

A second family cat described as “really frightened” was found hiding in a barn, the release said.
