A flash-flood warning is in effect until 5:15 p.m. for south-central Jefferson County and northeastern Park County.
National Weather Service radar indicated moderate to heavy rain from a thunderstorm 3 miles east of Buffalo Creek, which is moving east at 5 mph.
The warning includes Pine Junction, Pine Grove, Wellington Lake, Buffalo Creek and Bailey.
The weather service estimated that some areas have seen up to 3 inches of rain since 2 p.m.
Runoff from this storm could cause flash flooding in creeks, streams, roads and ditches. The storm also could trigger rockslides or mud flows in steep terrain.
The metro region will likely see scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, according to the forecast. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain. The chance of precipitation is 40 percent this afternoon and 50 percent tonight.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected Friday afternoon as well, with a 40 percent chance of rain, according to the National Weather Service.
The high is expected to be 84 degrees in Denver on Friday.
