Festivals include the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival, July 1-Aug. 4, featuring more than 40 internationally renowned soloists and chamber musicians, four concerts conducted by the New York Philharmonic’s new music director Alan Gilbert, cellist Alisa Weilerstein, violinist Gil Shaman, pianist Yuja Wang and more; the Crested Butte Music Festival, July 4-26, with highlights including a celebration of the works of Mendelssohn and Haydn, a “Have a Beer With Beethoven” event, a dance ensemble in conjunction with the Crested Butte Dance Festival, jazz saxophonist and composer Daniel Schnyder and more; Music in the Mountains, July 10-Aug. 2, featuring orchestra, chamber music and conservatory performances of classical and world music; the Emerald City Opera, July 19-Aug. 16 in Steamboat Springs, where the 2009 main stage production is “The Elixir of Love,” with artists from the Metropolitan Opera and other internationally renowned opera houses. Other activities include aria concerts, vocal master classes, opera-appreciation classes and encounter discussions with the stars of the production; and the Telluride Chamber Music Festival, in August, featuring six concert performances and two special events, including a picnic concert and a free children’s concert.
