GOLDEN, Colo.—Construction has begun on a new $9 million animal shelter in Jefferson County.
The Foothills Animal Shelter at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds will replace the Table Mountain Animal Center which is located in a 33-year-old building.
The new shelter’s facility will be 30,000 square feet, three times the size of the previous building. The shelter is expected to open next year.
Table Mountain executive director Jill McFadden says the new shelter will allow work to be done more efficiently and the environment will be more welcoming to animals.
The shelter will handle adoptions, veterinary services, and training classes.
