Richard Petty took a swig of wine as he stood in Victory Lane on June 21 and celebrated Kasey Kahne’s win in Sonoma, Calif. It was a long time coming for Petty, a NASCAR icon who had gone 10 years without a win as an owner. That ended with Petty drinking wine next to a driver wearing a Budweiser uniform, right, which might have seemed incongruous with the longstanding Petty family rule to never associate with alcohol sponsorship. These days, a win is a win. “Naturally, it’s good for morale, if nothing else,” Petty said. The New York Times, Getty Images
