Winds from intense thunderstorms and a brief tornado in Sterling knocked down light poles and trees, but no injuries have been reported, authorities say.

Several funnel clouds menaced the town on Colorado’s northeastern plans starting around 6:27 p.m. South Central Logan County remained under a tornado warning until 7:15 p.m. as the storm moves south at about 15-mph.

Small streams, underpasses, highways, county roads and other low-lying areas around Sterling will likely see flooding as up to an estimated 1.5 inches of rain falls in just 20 minutes.

The flood advisory for Sterling, Atwood, Iliff, Logan Corners, Merino, North Sterling Reservoir, Padroni, Pawnee Pass, Westplains and Willard will last until 8:15 p.m.

Earlier in the day, severe thunderstorms boasting up to 60-mph winds swept from the mountains to the plains, snapping flag poles and 3-inch diameter tree limbs in places like Lochbuie around 4:39 p.m.

At 4:16 p.m. a funnel cloud was spotted near Castle Rock.

At 4:13 p.m. radar indicated the storm was four miles north of Firestone, or 20 miles southwest of Greeley, moving to the southeast at 20 mph.

A severe thunderstorm watch is effect until 8 p.m. for 12 Colorado counties: Crowley, Custer, Douglas, Elbert, El Paso. Fremont, Huerfano, Las Animas, Lincoln, Otero, Pueblo and Teller.

Rain chances weaken Monday with a high of about 88 and a low near 60 for Denver.

Tuesday could reach the upper 90s, with a 10 percent of afternoon thunderstorms, forecasters said.
