ALBUQUERQUE — Guinness World Records already has a largest-hamburger designation on the books, but a New Mexico cafe is trying for the title of world’s largest green chile cheeseburger.

The burger, crafted by Peppers Cafe in Mesilla, features a 10-inch diameter, 1-pound burger, a half-pound of cheese and three green chiles between two specially made buns.

Restaurant owner C.W. “Buddy” Ritter says the burger has been on the menu for five days and the cafe sold 20 of the burgers Monday alone.

Ritter says the cafe, which operates in the Double Eagle restaurant, is under consideration by Guinness for the largest commercial green chile cheeseburger record.

He says they have sent in specifications and photographs of the burger in hopes of qualifying for the record.
