DENVER—Rule No. 1 in Colorado politics: Know your mountains.
A candidate for governor is the latest to use a picture of an out-of-state mountain in campaign materials.
Republican Scott McInnis accidentally used a picture from the Canadian Rockies on his Web site. It’s no small gaffe in a state proud of its mountains.
Last year, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Schaffer famously displayed Alaska’s Mount McKinley in a TV ad as he talked about Colorado’s mountains.
A strategist for McInnis said a design consultant created the Web site. It featured the question “What do you want for the future of Colorado?” with a photo of the Canadian Rockies behind it.
The picture has been replaced with a photo of the Flatirons rock formations west of Boulder.
