BOULDER — Authorities responded to four reports of bears in homes or yards west of Boulder on Tuesday night, including one in which a bear walked into a house in Sunshine Canyon.
The bear entered the home through a door that was left open, according to Bruce Rice, 51, the homeowner at 373 Seven Hills Drive, about 1.5 miles up the canyon. Rice was watching a Colorado Rockies game and didn’t know the bear was in his home until his neighbor saw the animal and called police.
The neighbor, Peter Schindler, 34, also yelled out to Rice to warn him. The bear was snacking on fruit in the kitchen. The men made loud noises to try to scare the animal away, and it fled the house and ran up a nearby tree.
