CANON CITY, Colo.—Reports of neglected horses at a private ranch in Canon City led authorities to seize 22 of them and charge their owner with animal cruelty.

The horses were seized Tuesday in Canon City after neighbors complained of neglected horses. Owner Geraldine Rem faces 22 cruelty charges.

The Fremont County sheriff’s office is caring for the horses. Most of them have been picked up by the Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue along with the Front Range Equine Rescue. Rescuers say many of the animals are emaciated or have untreated injuries.
