DENVER—The Colorado office of the Bureau of Land Management will achieve a first for the agency when it conducts its next quarterly oil and gas lease auction online.
The sale of leases on a total of 28,489 acres will run Sept. 9-17. The 38 parcels up for bid will be split into two groups and offered on a staggered basis. The first 19 will be offered starting Sept. 9 and will close at noon on Sept. 16. The remaining 19 will be offered beginning Sept. 10 and will close at noon on Sept. 17.
The auction is a pilot program ordered by Congress to study the feasibility of Internet auctions. The BLM chose Colorado as the pilot site.
