COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A bear that eluded wildlife officers for at least four hours in Colorado Springs was finally cornered after retreating to a parking garage.
The black bear was shot with a tranquilizer early Friday afternoon. The 200-pound male bruin will be moved at least 100 miles to the southwest.
The bear was first spotted Friday morning wandering through homes near a creek. It was seen a few hours later crossing streets and ambling through a parking lot where landscape worker Doug Marker says he ended up about 2 feet away from him.
The bear than bolted across a street to the parking garage. Colorado Division of Wildlife officer Jeromy Huntington says the bear likely wandered into the city via creek beds.
