COLORADO SPRINGS — With the nearest veterans cemetery 70 to 80 miles away from Colorado Springs, Sen. Michael Bennet says he’s pushing for a final resting place for Pikes Peak region veterans that is convenient for their families.

The Colorado Democrat met with military members and their families Saturday in Colorado Springs to update them on a bill moving through Congress for a veterans cemetery in El Paso County. His office says the Pikes Peak region, with two Air Force bases, a military post, and a military academy, has the highest concentration of veterans in the country.

Bennet also discussed a bill moving through Congress that would exempt combat pay from income requirements to be eligible for federal child nutrition programs.
